LOGO DESIGN AND BRANDING
How much for a logo?
This is the most common question I’ve been asked since going freelance. Can you put a price on such a thing? What I do know is that you shouldn’t scrimp on your company’s appearance.
During my career, I’ve seen companies and sole traders that have tried to design their own logo, and have ordered cheap and poor quality business cards and associated marketing materials. They are left with with logos that are composed of some ‘clip art’ and some dodgy typography, or perhaps even a low resolution image from the internet. It looks cheap, it doesn’t look professional and it stands out a mile (for the wrong reasons).
What should you spend on creating your logo and brand identity?
I know there are designers out there who will quote a price of £X and that will get you X versions and you get to choose one but that’s it. What if that logo doesn’t suit you, feel right or represent what you and your company does?
I like to get to know you, what you like and how you wish to be perceived. If you have a budget in mind then I will (where possible) work to that budget. I’ve created logos in the space of an hour and ‘hit the nail on the head’ first time and it’s worked perfectly for the client. I’ve spent 5 to 6 hours and gone through 30 variations of positioning, typography, colours, shape, etc until we’ve developed the identity that suited another client. Each case is individual.
Also remember that your brand identity extends further than just a logo on a business card. Consistency of brand is required to the rest of your marketing materials, website, PowerPoint presentations, signage, vehicles and uniform. Failure to do so leads to a disjointed and unprofessional appearance.
